Chinoiserie wall murals

Chinoiserie is a classic decorative style inspired by Chinese and East Asian art, popular in European interiors since the 18th century. Painted birds, flowering branches, peonies and garden pavilions on soft backgrounds bring timeless elegance to a room. Today Chinoiserie murals are loved by designers for traditional, eclectic and modern interiors alike.

Chinoiserie styles

• Classic garden scenes: birds, trees and flowers on cream, sage or blue grounds.
• Dark Chinoiserie: blossoms and birds on black or deep green for a dramatic look.
• Pastel Chinoiserie: blush, mint and powder blue for bedrooms.
• Gold and metallic effects: luxurious designs for dining rooms and halls.

Where Chinoiserie works best

Chinoiserie is a natural fit for dining rooms, where a painted garden surrounds the table, and for bedrooms behind the headboard. It also turns an entrance hall, a powder room or a staircase into a memorable space. Combine it with classic furniture, rattan, blue-and-white ceramics or modern pieces for an eclectic mix.

Material

Premium, with its canvas texture, makes Chinoiserie look like a hand-painted wall. Standard adds a subtle shimmer that suits gold and metallic designs. See also toile murals and floral murals.
