How to Choose a Photo for a Custom Photo Mural
A family photo, a view from your favorite trip, your pet or your own artwork can become a wall mural printed to the exact size of your wall. The result depends mostly on one thing: the photo you start with. This guide explains what to look for.
1. Resolution: more pixels is better
A wall is much larger than a phone screen, so the photo needs enough pixels to stay sharp when enlarged. For our custom photo mural we ask for at least 3000 px on the long side. A modern phone photo usually works well for walls up to about 2.5 m (8 ft) wide. The bigger the wall, the higher the resolution you need.
2. Use the original file
Messaging apps and social networks compress photos and reduce their quality. Always upload the original file from your phone or camera, not a screenshot or a photo sent through a chat. We accept JPG, PNG and TIFF up to 20 MB. Have a larger file? Place your order and email it to us with your order number.
3. Match the shape of your wall
Most walls are wider than they are tall, so a landscape (horizontal) photo usually fits best. A vertical photo on a wide wall will be cropped at the top and bottom. Think about where the important parts of the picture are, and leave some space around them.

4. Which photos work best
- Landscapes and nature: forests, mountains, beaches and city views look fantastic at wall size.
- Simple compositions: one clear subject with a calm background.
- Good light: photos taken in daylight are sharper and have more natural colors.
- Your own artwork: a scanned painting or drawing can make a unique feature wall.
5. Photos to avoid
- Blurry or out-of-focus photos
- Very dark night photos with lots of noise
- Heavily filtered or very small images
- Photos you do not own or have the right to use
How the free digital proof works
After you order, we email you a free preview showing how your photo will be cropped and placed on the wall. We print only after you approve it. If your photo is not sharp enough for the size you ordered, we will tell you before printing and suggest options.

Ideas for photo murals
- A travel memory: a beach, a mountain view or a city skyline from your favorite trip.
- Family moments: a candid photo with soft natural light works better than a posed group shot.
- Pets: a close-up portrait of your dog or cat makes a fun, personal feature wall.
- Your own art or a child's drawing: scanned at high resolution, it becomes a unique mural.
- Business branding: a product or brand photo for a shop, office or café.
Tips for taking a new photo
If you plan to take a photo especially for your wall, shoot in landscape orientation, use the main camera (not the zoom), keep the camera steady and shoot in good daylight. Leave some space around the main subject so it is not cut off when the photo is fitted to your wall.
